How to make money on TikTok in Nigeria in 2026

By the Hawkit New team · · 7 min read

TikTok doesn't pay Nigerians for views. The Creator Rewards Program isn't open to creators living in Nigeria, so the money comes from other places: LIVE gifts, brand deals, selling your own products or services, making content for brands, and small paid engagement tasks. Some of those pay well. Most take months of posting before anything shows up. Here's what's actually available, what isn't, and where to start.

Does TikTok pay Nigerian creators?

Not directly for views. TikTok's Creator Rewards Program pays creators for qualified views on original videos longer than one minute, but only in a short list of countries, mostly in North America, Europe and parts of Asia. Legit.ng's guide to whether TikTok pays Nigerian creators confirms Nigerian creators are excluded.

That catches a lot of people out. You'll see foreign creators talk about their "TikTok cheque" and assume a viral video in Lagos pays the same. It doesn't. The eligibility rules people quote (18 or older, 10,000 followers, 100,000 views in the last 30 days) only matter if you live in an eligible country.

What about a VPN or a UK address? Eligibility follows where you live, and payouts need identity and payment details that match. Faking it breaks TikTok's terms. If the account gets flagged, you lose the account and whatever was sitting in it. I'd rather build something slower that you actually own.

So treat TikTok as attention, then turn that attention into money somewhere else. Here's how the main routes compare.

Can you earn from TikTok LIVE gifts in Nigeria?

Yes. LIVE gifting works in Nigeria: viewers buy coins, send gifts during your LIVE, and those gifts turn into Diamonds you can cash out. Most guides say you need about 1,000 followers to go LIVE (TikTok says this can vary by region) and you must be 18 or older to receive gifts.

There's a catch you should know about. In December 2025, TikTok temporarily blocked Nigerian users from hosting or viewing LIVE streams late at night while it ran a safety investigation, after a surge in streams with explicit content. Techloy reported the move, and Legit.ng noted that TikTok said creators kept access to earnings they'd already made. Late night had been prime gifting time for a lot of creators, so some lost income with no warning.

The lesson: LIVE income depends entirely on TikTok's rules, and those can change overnight. Use it, but don't let it be your only income.

LIVE works best when you give people a reason to stay. Tutorials, Q&As, cooking, gaming, and "battles" with other creators all pull gifts. Sitting quietly in front of the camera begging for roses doesn't, and it's the kind of LIVE TikTok's moderators are watching most closely.

How do Nigerian TikTokers get brand deals?

Brands pay you to feature their product in a video, usually as a fixed fee per post. You don't need millions of followers. A Lagos skincare brand would often rather pay someone with 8,000 followers who are all women in Lagos than someone with 200,000 random followers abroad. Niche and engagement matter more than raw numbers.

There's no reliable published rate card for Nigerian TikTok creators, and the figures floating around blogs are all over the place. Rates depend on your niche, how many people actually watch to the end, how long the brand can use the video, and how good you are at negotiating. Ask creators in your niche what they charge. Most will tell you if you ask politely.

To get your first deals:

  1. Pick one niche and stay in it for at least three months. Food in Abuja, tech reviews, fashion on a budget, exam tips for WAEC students. Anything specific.
  2. Put a business email in your bio so brands can reach you.
  3. Make a simple one-page media kit: who you are, follower count, average views, audience location and age (from TikTok analytics), and two or three of your best videos.
  4. Pitch small, local businesses first. Restaurants, salons, phone accessory shops and online fashion stores already spend money on Instagram and TikTok promotion.
  5. Get paid upfront, or at least 50% upfront. Write the deliverables down, even in a WhatsApp message.

Is UGC a better option than growing your own following?

For many people, yes. UGC (user-generated content) means you make videos that brands post on their own pages or run as ads. The brand cares about the video, not your follower count. If you can film clean, honest-looking product videos on your phone, you can do UGC with 300 followers.

Build a small portfolio first. Buy two or three cheap products you already use, film short reviews and unboxings, and put them in a Google Drive folder or a pinned post. Then pitch brands directly: "I make product videos for small brands. Here are three examples. I can do two for your store this month."

UGC also travels. Foreign brands hire UGC creators from anywhere, and some Nigerians find that work through freelance platforms. Our guide to freelancing on Upwork and Fiverr from Nigeria covers how to set that up and get paid.

Can you sell on TikTok in Nigeria without TikTok Shop?

Yes, and this is where most Nigerian TikTok money actually happens. TikTok Shop, the in-app checkout, hadn't been officially launched for Nigerian sellers as of October 2026. Instead, sellers post videos, send people to WhatsApp or a website, and close the sale there. It's clunkier, but it works.

TikTok is clearly interested in Nigerian sellers. In April 2026 it partnered with the International Chamber of Commerce to run Digital Commerce Labs for small businesses in Nigeria, according to BrandSpur. That's training, not a storefront, but it's worth watching if you run a small business.

What sells well through TikTok videos:

  • Fashion, thrift and ready-to-wear, filmed on a real person
  • Food, small chops and baked goods, with delivery in one city
  • Skincare and hair products (be careful with claims)
  • Digital products: templates, ebooks, courses, presets
  • Services such as makeup, photography, tutoring and graphic design

Show the product in use, state the price in the video or caption (people hate "DM for price"), and reply to comments quickly. If you're selling to strangers, read our guide on how to sell online in Nigeria safely before you send anything on credit.

Do TikTok engagement tasks really pay?

They do, but the amounts are small. Advertisers pay real people to follow accounts, like videos or watch content. On Hawkit New's TikTok tasks, which open on Wednesday 4 November 2026, advertisers typically set ₦20 to ₦100 per task, and there's a cap of 40 TikTok tasks a day to protect your account from looking spammy.

Do the maths before you get excited. Forty tasks at ₦50 average is ₦2,000 on a good day, if that many tasks are available. That's data money, not rent money. The minimum withdrawal is ₦1,000, sent by bank transfer with no withdrawal fee.

Two warnings. First, any app that asks you to pay a big "registration fee" and promises fixed daily income is probably a Ponzi; here's how to spot one. Second, if you're a creator thinking of paying for followers, TikTok's rules on fake engagement apply to you. Real people following you is better than bots, but followers who don't care about your content still won't watch it. Paid engagement can help a new account get seen. It can't replace content people want.

If you want to try tasks alongside building your own page, claim a free account while the first 10,000 accounts are still free. Then spend the next 30 days posting one video a day in a single niche, and check your analytics at the end to see which route above fits what's working for you.

Questions

Does TikTok pay Nigerian creators for views?

No. The Creator Rewards Program, which pays for qualified views on videos longer than one minute, is limited to a short list of countries, and Nigeria isn't on it. Nigerian creators earn through LIVE gifts, brand deals, selling their own products and paid tasks instead.

Can I use a VPN or foreign account to join TikTok Creator Rewards from Nigeria?

People try, but eligibility is tied to where you actually live, and payouts need matching identity and payment details. Faking your location breaks TikTok's terms and puts the account and any earnings at risk. It's a bad trade for an account you've spent months building.

How many followers do I need to go LIVE on TikTok?

Most guides put it at 1,000 followers, and TikTok says the requirement can vary by region. You also need to be 18 or older to receive gifts. Check the LIVE option in your own app, since the rules change and may differ for your account.

Is TikTok Shop available in Nigeria?

As of October 2026 there's no official TikTok announcement of TikTok Shop opening to Nigerian sellers. TikTok did launch Digital Commerce Labs with the ICC for Nigerian small businesses in April 2026, but that's a training programme, not the storefront.

How much do TikTok tasks pay in Nigeria?

On Hawkit New, advertisers set the pay, and TikTok follow, like and view tasks typically run from ₦20 to ₦100 each. There's a daily cap of 40 TikTok tasks per user to protect accounts. It's pocket money, not a salary.
